Craftsmanship and Design

The Cuckoo Hanging Planter and Vase features a single, gracefully arcing stainless steel rod, balancing two vessels with precision. The planter rests securely within a frame crafted from four stacked, recycled CDs, enhanced with an iridescent purple hue achieved through a layering technique. The glass test-tube vase is held in a matching recycled CD frame, creating a harmonious contrast between smooth, matt paper pulp, translucent CDs, and sleek steel.

The hydroscopic nature of the paper pulp planter echoes unglazed terracotta, allowing excess water to transpire through its walls, making it ideal for succulents.

This thoughtful, minimalist design celebrates the beauty of Nature while embracing sustainability, making it perfect for eco-conscious decorators and plant lovers alike. It’s more than a planter or vase; it’s a celebration of form, function, and our connection to the natural world.

Why Cuckoo? I gave each the name of a bird on the British Trust for Ornithology red list as the species is globally threatened. This reflects my concern about species decline due to environmental change.

Measurements

The distance between the top of the loop of the stainless steel branch and the hook on its longest arm is 23.5 cm.  The widest dimension of stainless steel is 18 cm.

A 1 metre fine stainless steel wirerope is attached to this loop to hang from a ceiling hook.  It can also be hung from a curtain pole.  If you are hanging from a curtain pole, please use the contact form to let me know, I will include a larger hook for this, instead of a smaller size.  I make these from the offcuts of the stainless steel branches of the mobile sculptures.
