In this workshop you will be shown how to form words using copper wire. The wire will be shaped with round-nosed pliers, small hammers and anvils. I will show you the technique of “forging” with copper wire. Your compositions can be hung directly on the wall without a frame (unless you prefer to use a box frame).
The copper wire is easy to shape, not requiring strength. It is possible to use pliers alone to shape your letters, however “forging” will produce textured surfaces with hammered indentations. Your letters can have tapered areas and flattened areas, which may suggest caligraphy.
I will provide the copper wire for the workshop. This has been collected from discarded electric cable and prepared by removing the PVC outer layer on all the wire. If you wish to bring copper wire from your own discarded electrical devices that will be fine. All tools will be provided.
You may wish to decide on your words/phrases ahead of the workshop. You can request a list of suggestions to consider, when you book. Expect to make a composition of up to 23 letters during the workshop, this is an approximate guide. If you have decided to create a composition which will require more time than one workshop, then I can offer a reduced price on a second workshop (£45 for first workshop, £38 for second workshop). There are currently two workshop dates, however I may arrange further dates.

It will be a small group of a maximum of 5 participants.
