Dyed orange & black nylon pendant – upcycled
£21.00
A Karen Whiterod nylon orange and black earring upcycled into a pendant with a hook and loop fastening. Through the 90s I was a jewellery-designer maker. This is one from a pair of earrings that was in my first range of jewellery using nylon and gold-leaf (the dots). I resist-dyed each segment. The sections were made three-dimensional by forming into aluminium. The segments are rivetted together.

Through the 90s I was a jewellery-designer maker working with nylon. This pendant is made from a pair of earrings in my Gold-leaf dots range, the first collection of jewellery I made with nylon. This is resist dyed to make a pattern. The shape was made three-dimensional by forming into aluminium, then rivetted with brass wire to hold the form. The dyed pattern is enhanced with dots of gold-leaf. The nylon has been glass-bead blasted (a similar process to sand blasting but much finer) to give a fine matt surface on one side.
The nylon offcuts are used to make one of my vessel frames. Other frames are made using aluminium sheet remaining from making the forming tools for my jewellery.
